Kogi PDP suspends congresses due to irregularities

Due to irregularities, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cancelled the three planned ad hoc delegate congresses in the 239 districts of Kogi State.

The decision was communicated in a letter dated July 27, 2024 and signed by Senator Laah Dajuma, Chairman of the party’s Transitional Committee.

The letter addressed to the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lokoja, Kogi State, reads: β€œIn continuation of our earlier communication to you on the conduct of the three ad hoc delegates in Kogi State, we are writing to draw your attention to a serious anomaly that occurred prior to the exercise of one Rt. Hon. Dr. Boyelayefa Dabekeme in the state.”

The PDP raised concerns about the integrity of the congresses after it was revealed that the incumbent officials had travelled with impersonators who allegedly posed as returning officers of Nasarawa, FCT, Imo and Kano states.

This development, says the PDP, compromises the Congress and renders the entire process null and void.

The party assured that it would inform INEC about the new date of the congresses as soon as the issues were resolved.
