Two suspected Lululemon thieves arrested

Charles Mitchell-Baynes had $3,800 worth of Lululemon sportswear and illegal substances in his car.

WASHINGTON – DC police have made a second arrest in connection with several Lululemon thefts in the city.

On Saturday, officers on patrol in the area of ​​12th Street Northeast observed a car committing a traffic violation. Police conducted a traffic stop and searched the car.

The driver of the car, Charles Mitchell-Baynes, had $3,800 worth of Lululemon athletic apparel and illegal substances in the car. Mitchell-Baynes was arrested and charged with receiving stolen goods and possession of marijuana with intent to resell.

Officers previously arrested Avante Demarco Greene in connection with the shoplifting during a traffic stop. Police said they were on patrol in the northwest area early Friday morning near the Columbia Heights, Adams Morgan, Mt. Pleasant and Logan Circle neighborhoods when they saw Greene’s vehicle.

Police said the vehicle matched the description of the vehicle used in numerous shoplifting incidents. When officers stopped Greene, they recognized him from the suspect’s photo released in connection with the Lululemon thefts.

According to police, two men entered the Lululemon store on F Street and stole more than $11,000 worth of merchandise. This came seven months after the Lululemon store in Navy Yard was permanently closed following an armed robbery. The robbers in this case stole money from the cash register and at least $6,000 worth of merchandise.

Greene was arrested and charged with three counts of theft in connection with the following thefts:

  • July 10 in the 1000 block of F Street, Northwest
  • July 12 in the 3200 block of M Street, Northwest
  • July 16 in the 1000 block of F Street, Northwest
