Man shot early Friday in north Minneapolis is found by police more than 5 hours later

Minneapolis police early Friday found the body of a man who was shot more than five hours ago, officials said.

Officers were alerted after ShotSpotter technology detected gunshots in the area of ​​N. 21st and Upton Avenue around 2:25 a.m., police said.

At around 7:40 a.m., officers arrived one block away on Thomas Avenue and saw a man lying in front of a house with a gunshot wound, according to police. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

No arrests have been announced and the man’s identity has not yet been released. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation by police.

Minneapolis also reported several shootings this week, with three or more victims.

According to police, three people were shot, one fatally, in the 2500 block of Central Avenue NE, north of Lowry Avenue, on Sunday evening. The victim was identified as Christopher D. Thurmond, 32, of Maplewood.

A woman was killed and five people were injured in a shooting on Franklin Avenue between 16th and 17th Avenues S. on Monday evening, police said. Police recovered a weapon at the scene, but so far only one man has been arrested for hindering law enforcement. The woman’s identity has not yet been released.

On Wednesday evening at 11:15 p.m., three people were shot in the center of Nicollet Mall between 5th and 7th Streets. They survived.

According to a Star Tribune database, there have been at least 39 murders in the city this year, compared to 33 at the same time last year.
