Daniel Steres named to MLSSoccer.com’s Team of the Day

HOUSTON (July 18, 2024) – Houston Dynamo FC defender Daniel Steres was appointed to the MLSSoccer.com Team of the Day for the 27th day, the league announced today.

The Dynamo earned a 1-0 away win over the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday night thanks to a late goal from Steres.

Dynamo took the lead in the 86th minute when striker McKinze Gaines left the ball in front Amine Bassiwho centered the ball toward the middle of the box where Steres volleyed the ball into the net. The goal marked the California native’s first of the season, while the move marked Bassi’s seventh assist.

The Dynamo have lost just once in their last nine games, while scoring 18 goals in that span. Additionally, Houston recorded its fifth clean sheet of the season last night and did not concede a single shot on goal against the Earthquakes.

Steres is the 14th Dynamo player to be named in the team of the match this season and is joined by Steve Clark (23rd day), Sebastian Ferreira (22nd day), Blessing of Latif (21st day), Franco Escobar (7th and 20th days), Hector Herrera (Days 18 and 13), André Tarbell (17th day), Bassi (17th day), Erik Sviatchenko (15th day), Griffin Dorsey (13th day), Ethan Bartlow (9th day), Arthur (7th day), Brad Smith (6th day) and Aliyu Ibrahim (5th day). Head coach Ben Olsen was also named to the squad for Matchday 9 following Houston’s 2-1 win at Minnesota United FC.

Houston will next face Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BC Place on Saturday, July 20, with a 9:30 p.m. CT kickoff before the Leagues Cup begins next week. The Dynamo will host LIGA MX side Atlas FC on July 27 and MLS side Real Salt Lake on August 5 in the Leagues Cup group stage. Tickets for those games are available HERE.
