A Margate man says he accidentally killed his mother while standing up to his father

A Margate man accused of shooting his mother in late 2019 is asking a Broward judge to dismiss his involuntary manslaughter charge because he pulled the trigger in self-defense — during an argument with his father. It’s an unusual use of the state’s Stand Your Ground law, as Alexander DelToro Jr. claims he was defending himself against someone other than the person he killed.
