Update: Highway 99 closed in Surrey as police investigate fatal accident

Motorists should expect significant delays as northbound lanes north of King George Boulevard will remain closed during the police investigation

A woman in her early 20s died on Thursday after an accident on Highway 99 in Surrey.

The single-vehicle accident north of King George Boulevard occurred around 1:30 a.m.

The woman was thrown from the vehicle and died. Two other passengers were trapped in the vehicle. They were taken to hospital, according to RCMP.

The driver of the vehicle is a 23-year-old man and the passenger is a 22-year-old man.

Investigators from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Surrey believe that speed may have played a role in the accident.

The northbound lanes of Highway 99 north of King George Boulevard remain closed while police investigate.

Traffic is being diverted, but an accident also occurred on the diversion route.

The public is asked to avoid the area until further notice.

Anyone with information, including dashcam footage from the area, is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.

Meanwhile, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) of Ridge Meadows were also investigating a fatal car crash that occurred Wednesday evening in Pitt Meadows.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m., officers were called to a motorcycle accident on Golden Ears Way near Lougheed Highway.

According to RCMP, a 70-year-old man from Langley died in the accident. Investigators believe he may have lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into the median.

After the collision, Golden Ears Way was closed in both directions for several hours.
