Brookfield man sentenced to prison for 2018 sexual assault

Yong Sik Kim was sentenced to five years in prison on Thursday, according to the state’s criminal justice department.

DANBURY, Conn. – A 63-year-old Brookfield man was sentenced to prison Thursday for a 2018 sexual assault in Danbury, according to a release from the state’s Division of Criminal Justice.

Yong Sik Kim received a five-year prison sentence, with execution stayed after 27 months served and 15 years of probation, the statement said. It noted that evidence at trial showed that Kim had sexually assaulted a co-worker in the victim’s apartment, and that the prosecution presented DNA evidence to support the victim’s claims.

On Feb. 14, a Danbury Superior Court jury found Kim guilty of third-degree sexual assault and third-degree coercion of an elderly person, the release said.

Kim’s five-year sentence, which was suspended after 27 months, was for the third-degree sexual assault count, while he received a 364-day sentence in connection with the third-degree assault on an elderly person; This sentence will run concurrently with the sexual assault charge, the release said.
