San Jose police arrested a 56-year-old man last week for allegedly placing an explosive device near a business, the police department said Tuesday.

Felix Arnaz was arrested on July 3 after officers responded to a bomb threat in the 1300 block of Ridder Park Drive, police said. Arnaz had called police to report that he had planted the explosive device.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found what appeared to be an improvised explosive device, police said. The SJPD’s bomb disposal unit and MERGE unit were also on site and determined that the explosive device was incomplete but functional.

Authorities found no explosives in his vehicle or his home.

Investigators are looking into a possible motive.

People who work in the area said they had seen Arnaz before. They also said the bomb threat sparked a major evacuation, forcing a school and several businesses to close for nearly an entire day.
