Woman found dead NYC 31: 55-year-old man in police custody after body found wrapped in plastic and sleeping bag

KIPS BAY (WABC) — A 55-year-old man is now under suspicion and is in police custody after the body of 31-year-old Yazmeen Williams was found in a sleeping bag in Kips Bay last week.

Although the police have neither revealed the identity of the suspect nor filed any charges against him, the public is outraged.

A crowd chanted “murderer” on Monday evening as police carried the suspect out of her home on a stretcher.

The video shows police attempting to control the crowd during some very tense moments as they pushed forward and even beat the man in police custody.

Investigators found surveillance video that appears to show a man in an electric wheelchair dragging her body to the spot where it was found on East 27th Street.

The municipality has identified the man who was escorted out on Monday as “the man in the wheelchair.”

The medical examiner concluded that Williams had been shot in the head and ruled her death a homicide.

Family and friends mourn the death of their loved one while a makeshift memorial has been erected.

“I was so happy for her and so excited to spend my birthday with her. But now I don’t. My baby is gone,” said Nicole Williams, the victim’s mother.
