Two players head to arbitration as we await GMKA’s next decisions

Those of us who thought general manager Kevyn Adams was pretty much done after the first two days of free agency were certainly surprised by the flurry of activity. Others are now wishing Adams had made a move, as the Sabres added another third- or fourth-line player, but this time at the cost of one of the league’s top prospects.

To make an omelette, you have to break eggs. That’s what GMKA has done here, for better or for worse.

Meanwhile, it appears that Ukko Pekka Luukkonnen and newcomer Beck Malenstyn have declined their qualifying offers and filed for arbitration. That doesn’t mean anything at this point, as it’s likely all parties involved are still trying to work things out. Arbitration hearings begin July 20 and run through August 4, and there are certainly some interesting names on that list if any GMs are feeling brave about an offer.
