Police reports: Police investigating fatal ATV crash in Alma | Allegany County

ALMA — A 25-year-old Wellsville man was killed in an off-road vehicle crash in Allegany County Thursday, New York State Police reported Friday.

Police were called to the scene of the ATV accident on County Road 38 in the city of Alma around 10 p.m.

An investigation revealed that the driver of the ATV, Jesse M. Bestine, 26, along with a passenger, Zachary J. Barnett, 25, both of Wellsville, were traveling eastbound on County Road 38. According to police, Bestine swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle, causing the ATV to roll over several times.

Barnett suffered serious injuries and died at the scene, police reported. Bestine was taken to Jones Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Strong Hospital in Rochester for non-life-threatening injuries.

At the time of going to press on Friday, the investigation was still ongoing.

• BURNS – A one-vehicle crash was reported on Route 70 near Coombs Road at 4:31 p.m. Thursday. The driver was identified as Ryan B. Sanders, 19, of Swain. One person was reported injured.

• ANDOVER — A one-vehicle crash was reported at 1:35 a.m. Friday on Route 417 near Barrett Hill Road. Dakota Cheyenne Clar, 19, of Wellsville, was identified as the driver. One person was reported injured.
