1 dead and 3 injured in accident in Los Banos, CHP says | YourCentralValley.com

LOS BANOS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – One man is dead and three people are injured after a two-vehicle crash in Los Banos, according to the California Highway Patrol.

According to the CHP, on July 4, the Merced Communication Center received a 911 call about an accident on Canal School Road at Highway 33, and medical personnel responded. CHP Los Banos Area officers arrived at the scene and investigated the accident.


According to the CHP, preliminary investigation indicates a 22-year-old man was driving a 2017 Nissan southbound on Canal School Road north of Highway 33 at an undetermined speed. Another man was driving a 2002 Chevrolet northbound on Canal School Road north of Highway 33 at an undetermined speed.

For an unknown reason, the driver of the Nissan allowed his car to cross the solid yellow lines and enter the northbound lane of Canal School Road directly in front of the Chevrolet.

According to the CHP, the vehicles collided head-on in the northbound lanes, and the Chevrolet came to rest on its roof on the east side of Canal School Road, facing west. The Nissan came to rest on its wheels on the west side of Canal School Road, facing south.

According to CHP, the driver of the Nissan was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered fatal injuries. All passengers were taken to local hospitals with serious to minor injuries.

According to the CHP, drugs or alcohol do not appear to have played a role in the accident.
