Hoffman Estates man attacked and kidnapped his girlfriend

Christopher Krontiris

A Hoffman Estates man is being held in the DuPage County Jail after authorities say he beat, kidnapped and threatened to sexually assault and kill his girlfriend.

Christopher Krontiris, 25, is charged with several crimes, including aggravated kidnapping, burglary with a dangerous weapon and aggravated domestic violence, according to the DuPage County District Attorney’s Office.

According to authorities, Krontiris and his girlfriend got into an argument at a bar in Hanover Park late last month that led to police ejecting Krontiris from the establishment.

The woman also left the bar and traveled to Bartlett, where she was house-sitting. When she arrived, Krontiris attacked her after entering the house through an unlocked door.

According to police, Krontiris pushed the woman against a wall several times, hit her, choked her and dragged her across the floor, “resulting in significant bruising on the left side of her body.”

Krontiris also threatened her with a kitchen knife, cutting her head and back.

Krontiris then took the woman’s cell phone, forced her into a car and drove her to Michigan. On the way, the woman told police that Krontiris threatened to “stab her, rape her, kill her, break her legs and throw her body in a river.”

The woman was reported missing by her family on June 29, and police picked up Krontiris in Michigan City, Indiana, where he was taken into custody.

“The allegations against Mr. Krontiris are shocking,” said Robert Berlin, DuPage County District Attorney. “The brutal beating, choking, knife-pointing and kidnapping of an innocent woman alleged in this case will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Krontiris waived extradition and appeared before a DuPage County judge on Thursday for a detention hearing where he was ordered remanded in custody.

His next court date is scheduled for July 22.
