Roadside aggression incident on I-70 leads to shooting and arrest in Hancock County – The Daily Reporter

Gregory Davis, 22, Indianapolis

HANCOCK COUNTY – An Indianapolis man was arrested in Hancock County after he fired shots at a semi-truck while traveling on I-70 in the area, according to Indiana State Police (ISP) officials.

Officials with Hancock County Emergency Services received a call around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday about shots fired from a moving vehicle on I-70. The shots, officials said, were aimed at a semi-truck on I-70 near the 101 mile marker. The information was immediately relayed to ISP dispatchers. Officials say two police officers in the area heard the county officers’ initial call and moved into position to intercept the suspect vehicle.

The two officers saw the vehicle west of Mt. Comfort Road and stopped it, officials said. The driver, officials said, was the only occupant and was taken into custody. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Gregory Davis, 22, of Indianapolis, who had a handgun in the vehicle, officials said. State police detectives arrived at the scene to conduct the investigation. A detective met with the victim, the driver of the semi, who was not injured. There was damage consistent with bullet holes on the passenger side of the semi. Another detective met with the officers and spoke with the suspect.

Investigators believe a traffic incident led to the shooting by Davis, who was arrested and taken to the Hancock County Jail.

According to ISP officials, the freeway shooting is the 40th incident of this type of freeway shooting in the Indianapolis area this year. Last year, ISP investigated 55 freeway shootings in Indianapolis County.

Anyone who witnesses any form of road rage or becomes involved in such an incident is advised to call 911 immediately. Information provided by witnesses is inherently valuable to this investigation, officials said.

The arrest was made based on probable cause. However, ISP officials say all crimes mentioned are merely allegations and all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation is ongoing.

Davis is currently in the Hancock County Jail awaiting formal arraignment and an initial hearing.
