Attack in East Orange: Mother and two small children stabbed and seriously injured in New Jersey apartment

EAST ORANGE, N.J. (WABC) – A mother and two young children were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries in an East Orange apartment.

The victims were attacked early Thursday morning in a second-floor apartment on Park Avenue.

All three were taken to University Hospital in Newark with apparent stab wounds.

Neighbors told Eyewitness News that the victims were a mother and her two young children, ages 1 and 3 – and that one of those children had just celebrated a birthday this week.

We were told that the mother is in her twenties and has lived in this building her entire life.

Neighbors reported that they had seen her with her children on Wednesday and that everyone was in a celebratory mood after the birthday party.

“I’m in complete shock… and my heart is breaking right now,” said one resident. “I can’t believe it. Where did this go? Two children and a mother? I don’t know what makes people do things like this.”

There is no information about what might have led to the stabbing.

The incident is being investigated by the East Orange Police Department.
