DOT vehicle struck on Route 8, minor injuries reported: Police – NBC Connecticut

On Wednesday, the Connecticut Department of Transportation said one of its vehicles was struck by another vehicle on Route 8.

According to state police, minor injuries were reported following the accident in Litchfield shortly after 2 p.m.

A DOT official told NBC Connecticut that it was their “crash truck” that was hit. A crash truck is a safety vehicle used to protect property, people and passing drivers in construction zones along roadways.

According to state police, all lanes of Route 8 were closed during the operation and drivers used the outer shoulder to pass through.

According to CTDOT, there have already been more than 70 accidents involving department property, personnel and vehicles by 2024.
