6 Buffalo Beer briefs to know this week: June 26

Each week we round up the best and biggest Buffalo beer news, releases and events happening in Buffalo and Western New York. Here are the trends:

1. Big Ditch Brewing releases Imperial Hayburner IPA

Big Ditch looks to get you ready for the weekend with Friday’s release of Afterburner, a 9.0% version of their popular hazy Hayburner IPA. This imperial IPA features strong orange flavors and aromas, with Hayburner’s familiar bitterness, bitterness and drinkability. Afterburner will be available on draft and in 16oz 4-packs on June 28. It will be available for pickup at the bar and online (the brewery currently only ships to New York and Pennsylvania) with limited distribution starting next week.





2. Magic Bear Beer Cellar, 42 North Brewing team up again

The partnership between Magic Bear Beer Cellar and 42 North Brewing continues for a third year with the release of BEARy Cherry Fruited Sour on June 28 (5-7 p.m.). The beer features a blend of raspberry and blackberry from the first year of their collaboration series and sweet cherry from the second year. The beer will be released at Magic Bear, alongside a number of other 42 North beers, which will also be available for release.

3. Buffalo Brewing to release Simon Pure at Wm. Brasserie Simon

Buffalo Brewing Company will launch its resurrected Simon Pure Beer at the former Wm. Simon Brewery, located on the corner of Clinton and Emslie. Bill Simon will be on hand for the release, serving free hot dogs and talking all things Simon Pure. Buffalo Brewing’s version of the historic beer is light and easy drinking with notes of sweet malt and toast with a slightly dry finish. The beer will be available in 12oz. Boxes and crates in packs of 6. In 1900, Simon’s great-grandfather bought the brewery, then known as Schusler Brewery, and changed its name to William Simon. Simon produced Simon Pure and Old Abbey Ale until the brewery closed in 1972.

4. Resurgence Brewing 10th Anniversary Party

Resurgence Brewing is celebrating a decade on the local craft beer scene with a big event on June 29 (12 p.m.). This all-day extravaganza will feature dishes from Hayes Seafood and a Britesmith pork roast, a re-release of retro Resurgence beers, an anniversary IPA release (notes of sweet, ripe tropical fruit, sweet citrus, white grape , pineapple, melon and mango), merchandise offers, raffles and giveaways, live music from Tim Britt, DJ Dimarco and XOXO Band, mechanical chicken wings, a 360-degree photo booth, retro beer prices and more. 5. Erie County Fair Home Brew, Cider Winners Announced

Best of Show winners from the Erie County Home Brew and Hard Cider competitions have been selected. The Best in Show cider is “Grandstand Peach,” created by Tim Hull of Tonawanda. This sweet and refreshing cider will pair perfectly with fair trade and salty foods. It will be produced by Blackbird Cider Works. You can try it on July 11 at Resurgence Brewing (6 p.m.). The best beer at the show is “Tilt-a-Weizen”, brewed by Adam Millar from Hamburg. This classic Hefeweizen features natural flavors of banana yeast and cloves. It will be brewed and marketed by Hamburg Brewing. A keg event will take place on July 18 at Hamburg Brewing (6 p.m.).

6. Platter’s Chocolate and Ellicottville Brewing team up for a Dessert Ale

Platter’s Chocolate Factory and Ellicottville Brewing Company have teamed up for the seventh time on Pineapple Orange Whip Dessert Ale. Pineapple Orange Whip features tropical pineapple, fresh orange puree and subtle waves of creamy vanilla, along with white wheat and rolled oats. It’s inspired by Platter’s Cafe’s iconic summer whipped frozen dessert. Pineapple Orange Whip is available in 16 oz. 4-pack cans at the brewery and anywhere good craft beer is sold. EBC and Platter’s Chocolate Factory first launched Orange Chocolate Blonde Ale in 2019.
