Exxon threatens to close a French refinery if the strike continues (NYSE:XOM)

ExxonMobil (NYSE: XOM) said on Tuesday that production at its Gravenchon refinery in northern France may have to be halted if striking workers continue to block access to the site.

Blockades since Friday have prevented the delivery of goods and materials needed for The refinery’s operations will be maintained, the company told Reuters.

A group of workers called a strike last month after Exxon (XOM) announced it would close the refinery’s steam cracker this year and halt production of chemicals at the site, also known as Port Jerome.

Exxon (XOM) has announced that the Gravenchon site has lost more than 500 million euros since 2018 and remains uncompetitive; the plant nevertheless represents about 20% of French refining capacity.
