The Israeli military said its forces violated protocol when they strapped a wounded Palestinian to the front of their vehicle during a raid in the West Bank city of Jenin.

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed the incident after it was captured on video and shared on social media. An Israel Defense Forces statement said the man was injured in an exchange of gunfire during the attack, in which he was considered a suspect.

The injured man’s family said that when they called for an ambulance, the army took him, strapped him to the hood of their jeep and drove away.

The man was eventually transferred to the Red Crescent for treatment. The Israel Defense Forces said the incident was under investigation.

Eyewitnesses who spoke to Reuters identified him as a local and gave him the name Mujahed Azmi.

“This morning (Saturday), terrorists opened fire on IDF troops in the Wadi Burqin area during anti-terror operations to arrest wanted suspects, and the troops responded with fire,” the IDF statement said.

“During the exchange of fire, one of the suspects was injured and arrested.

“In violation of orders and standard procedures, the suspect was arrested by the officers while tied to a vehicle.

“The conduct of the forces in the video of the incident does not reflect the values of the Israel Defense Forces. The incident is being investigated and dealt with accordingly.”

Since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, which was triggered by Hamas’ deadly attack on southern Israel on October 7, there has been an escalation of violence in the West Bank.

According to the UN, at least 480 Palestinians – members of armed groups, attackers and civilians – have been killed in conflict-related incidents in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

In addition, ten Israelis were killed in the West Bank, including six members of the security forces.
