Man sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping 5-year-old girl in Thane

Thane: A man was sentenced to 10 years in prison by a special Pocso court on Friday for raping a girl in Thane’s Kopri area. According to the prosecution, Murali Kanhaiyalal Chouhan (24), a mason, had lured the 5-year-old to a toilet in the area where she lived on November 24, 2018 and raped her there. He was held by the victim’s father and others as he tried to flee after the incident. During the trial, 10 witnesses were examined, including the woman who owned the toilet complex and her son, special public prosecutors Sandhya Mhatre and Vivek Kadu said. Special Pocso Act court judge DS Deshmukh sentenced Chouhan to 10 years in prison and a fine of Rs 50,000, the special public prosecutors said. PTI
