Phoenix police identify man shot on I-10; death ruled a homicide

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Police are asking for the public’s help after a man was shot and killed on a downtown Phoenix freeway earlier this month.

On June 10, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers were called to a crash on Interstate 10 near 7th Avenue. When troopers arrived, they found that 39-year-old Lealdo Pedrego Tolano had been shot. Tolano was taken to the hospital but later died.

On Thursday, Phoenix police classified Tolano’s death as a homicide and are asking anyone with information to come forward. Police say Tolano was driving a gray 2009 Ford Escape at the time of the shooting.

Anyone driving in the area who has dashcam footage or may have seen anything is asked to contact Phoenix Police. Tipsters can also contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO (for Spanish speakers) and submit an anonymous tip.

The investigation led to an hours-long closure of I-10 in downtown Phoenix during the morning rush hour.
