I & M issues warning on peak energy events | Local

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) – Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) issued a power surge warning for the region on Tuesday.

The warning applies from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Customers are asked to reduce their energy consumption during these times.

Tips for saving energy:

Air conditioning, fans and blinds:

– Close blinds or curtains in the morning

– Turn your thermostat up a few degrees or turn off the air conditioning during event times

– Use fans to circulate air

– Limit the use of fans in the bathroom and kitchen

Oven and stove:

– Opt for a cold dinner like salad and sandwiches

– Cook dinner early in the day and heat it in the microwave for dinner

– Outdoor barbecue

– Use a slow cooker, pressure cooker or air fryer

Electronics:

– Charge mobile phones, tablets and laptops before the event starts and unplug them when the event begins

– Unplug any entertainment electronic devices that are not in use during the event.

Domestic appliances:

– Wash and dry laundry before or after the event

– Do not wash up dinner until late in the evening

– Wait to shower or bathe until after the event or turn down the temperature

– Open the refrigerator as little as possible

– Avoid using electrical appliances that generate heat, such as microwaves, coffee makers, hair dryers and the like.

Further tips:

– Turn off unnecessary lights inside and outside the house

– Turn off pool pumps and other non-essential electric motors.
