Motorcyclist injured in car accident in Rome | Local

ROME, NY – Rome police officers responded to the intersection of Rome Westernville and Potter streets for a car-motorcycle accident Tuesday evening.

The accident occurred around 5:20 p.m. and the motorcycle was found to be traveling south on Rome Westernville Road, according to RPD.

The car traveled north on Rome Westernville Road and turned left onto Potter Road.

“The vehicle failed to yield the right of way to the motorcycle while making a left turn,” RPD said in a news release.

The motorcycle collided with the vehicle.

The two people on the motorcycle suffered serious leg injuries.

“The driver,” officials said, “was initially transported by ambulance to Wynn Hospital. The passenger was airlifted from the scene of the accident to SUNY Upstate. After arriving at Wynn Hospital, the male driver was flown to SUNY Upstate after Wynn Hospital assessed his injuries. Both drivers suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

It turned out that the driver was responsible for the accident.

The driver was issued two tickets on the grounds that he failed to yield the right of way when turning left and did not turn properly.

The investigation is ongoing and additional tickets may be issued.
