6 Buffalo beer briefs to know this week: May 8

Every week we round up the best and biggest Buffalo beer news, releases and events happening in Buffalo and Western New York. Here are the trends:

1. Resurgence at Canalside to open this weekend

Resurgence at Canalside, the new seasonal waterfront destination from Resurgence Brewing, will host a soft opening this weekend. They will be open from May 10 to 12 and May 17 to 19 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Starting May 24, Resurgence at Canalside will be open 7 days a week, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. There will also be a grand opening event at the new location on Monday, June 3, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. In addition to food and beer, the new location will feature live music, outdoor games and sports leagues, alongside regularly scheduled events at the Buffalo Waterfront.





2. NYBP Beer Lodge will open in June in Orchard Park

The NYBP Beer Lodge, the New York Beer Project’s upcoming Orchard Park location, will officially open its doors to the public on June 14 (11 a.m.). The new 24,500 square foot lodge style location will feature a number of different themed spaces including The Buffalo Room, The Brewer’s Club, The NYBP Grove and 4 event spaces. The Lodge will open for the first time on June 12 for the NYBP Mug Club VIP Party, and if you would like to attend, but are not currently a member, you can register here. The special evening will include full tours, exclusive access and much more.

3. Rhythm & Brews from Kleinhans Music Hall returns June 13

Kleinhans’ annual fundraiser, Rhythm and Brews, returns June 13 (6-9 p.m.). Proceeds will be donated to Kleinhans Music Hall programming. The event will feature craft beer and cider from 42 North, Ellicottville Brewing, Southern Tier, Big Ditch, 12 Gates, Community Beer Works, Flying Bison, BlackBird Cider, and more, as well as food from Oliver’s , Britesmith, Creekview Restaurant and Marcato by Oliver’s. General admission tickets are $45, but a limited number of VIP tickets are available for $85, which include early entry, first tastes and reserved table seating. 4. Hamburg Brewing will expand its current tap room space

Hamburg Brewing is expanding its current taproom space with the addition of new space and additional seating inside its former train hall. The new space will be larger than the existing taproom, both located in a 17,000-square-foot building on the brewery’s Hamburg campus. With the new expansion project, the brewery plans to add at least five more employees to its 60-person workforce. The expansion is expected to be completed by mid-June.




5. Wicked Warren’s to take over former Jamestown brewery

Pennsylvania’s Wicked Warren’s is moving into the former Jamestown Brewing, located inside the former Jamestown Renaissance Center, at 119 West 3rd St. in Jamestown. Tentative plans call for a traditional ballroom space with a bar and seating on the first level, a stage for live music, a large dining room and speakeasy on the second floor and a banquet/event space on the third floor . There will be brewing on site and a gourmet menu consisting of wood-fired pizzas, hamburgers, sandwiches, poutine and weekly specials. Wicked Warren’s will move into the space this month and plans to hire about 30 people.

6. A new beer bar/bottle shop is coming to the town of Lockport

A new beer bar and bottle shop will soon call the town of Lockport home as the Lock Tender announced plans to open at 4 Lock St. The new space will feature a 12-seat bar and indoor seating for approximately 100 customers, as well as outdoor space for games such as cornhole and live music. There will be no kitchen on site. The property hopes to offer New York State craft beer, wine, cider and mead, both on tap and in bottles and cans to-go. The Lock Tender tentatively plans to open this summer.
