Todd Coyt new Jonesboro Georgia police chief

JONESBORO, Ga. — A new chief has taken the helm of the Jonesboro Police Department, about four months after the previous chief was fired.

New Chief Todd Hoyt was sworn in at an official ceremony last week. Previously, he had a long career with the Atlanta Police Department, reaching the rank of deputy chief.

APD congratulated him on social media Tuesday.

“Join us in congratulating former Deputy Chief Todd Coyt as he begins his new journey as Chief of the Jonesboro Police Department!” one post stated. “Your commitment and leadership have been invaluable, and we have no doubt that you will continue to serve with integrity and excellence. We wish you all the best for this exciting chapter that lies ahead!”

The previous chief, Tommy Henderson, was fired in early January under circumstances that were not further explained by the city. Mayor Donya Sartor said at the time that she felt “this is the best way to move the city forward.”
