State police investigate crash on Route 2 that killed Medford man

On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at approximately 1:10 p.m., Massachusetts State Troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash on Route 2 eastbound in Concord that left a Medford man dead.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was traveling on Route 2 when it struck a second vehicle, pushing it into a third vehicle. The driver of the Monte Carlo, Steven Marchand, 70, of Medford, was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead. The driver of the second vehicle, a 26-year-old man from Stoughton, suffered minor injuries and was also transported. The driver of the third vehicle was uninjured.

The left lane of Route 2 eastbound in Concord was closed for nearly two hours. The crash remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police Troop A, State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Division and State Police Crime Scene Services Division. Troopers were assisted by Concord Police, Concord Fire and EMS and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
