Teenager arrested in connection with Brandon murder in 2022

In 2022, a teenager was killed in a drug deal that led to a fatal shooting, officials said.

BRANDON, Fla. – A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a 2022 drug deal that led to a fatal shooting in Brandon, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting occurred on November 23, 2022 on Lake Chapman Drive. Another 16-year-old was killed.

Officials say the teen arrested Tuesday has been identified as the driver in the incident. Following his arrest, investigators say all four juvenile suspects in the murder case are in custody.

On Tuesday, officers obtained a court-ordered search warrant for the 16-year-old’s home. During the search, they allegedly seized illegal drugs, firearms and money.

The 16-year-old was accused of the following:

  • First degree murder during a robbery
  • Carrying a concealed firearm
  • Serious weapon theft
  • Armed possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver within 1,000 feet of a church
  • Minor in possession of a firearm

“This investigation highlights the tireless efforts of our investigators to ensure that victims and their families receive justice, no matter how long it takes,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones. We hope this helps them bring closure to the case knowing that justice is being served.”
