Michelle Obama’s mother Marian Robinson dies at the age of 86

Marian Robinson, the mother of former First Lady Michelle Obama, died on Friday, the family said in a statement. She was 86 years old.

“She passed away peacefully this morning and right now none of us are quite sure how to move forward without her,” the Obama family said.

Robinson was a fixture in the White House throughout Barack Obama’s eight-year presidency.

“She will be missed by all of us and we wish she was here to offer us a new perspective and heal our heavy hearts with a laugh and a dose of her wisdom,” the family statement said.

“In our grief, we are touched by the extraordinary gift of her life,” the statement continued. “And we will spend the rest of our lives living up to her example.”
