Mississippi family ‘traumatized’ by shocking car theft in their own front yard

Police in Jackson, Mississippi, have identified two suspects in connection with a shocking May 24 car theft that shot at a family in their own front yard. In video from local resident Heather Allen’s security camera, two men can be seen approaching her front yard. One of the men opens fire as Allen and her son stand outside. Allen told Storyful that her other son, daughter and two grandchildren were in the car next to them. The video then shows Allen’s family getting out of the car as the suspects attempt to steal it. Her daughter can be heard shouting, “My babies! My babies!” Speaking to local media, Allen said one of the men kept yelling for the car keys. When they couldn’t figure out how to steal the first car, Allen tossed them the keys to another car. The suspects left the scene in the second car, Allen said. Jackson police found the car about two blocks away and just 40 minutes after the incident. Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade confirmed that investigators had identified two people of interest in connection with the carjacking. “I had an opportunity to watch the video of Ms. Allen and her family being robbed in their driveway and their car being stolen,” Wade said. “It was extremely disturbing to me. It was very upsetting to me because a threat to her and her family is a threat to everyone.” A GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign has since been organized to help the family following the incident. “We are very traumatized by all of this,” Allen told Storyful.
