Investigations against Gerard Piqué over Saudi Supercup deal

A Spanish judge has opened an official investigation into former Barcelona player Gerard Piqué for his alleged involvement in illegal payments related to the relocation of the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia.

According to a court document, Judge Delia Rodrigo concluded that there were indications of wrongdoing in the deal between Piqué’s company Kosmos and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

According to court documents, former RFEF president Luis Rubiales, Saudi state-owned Sela Sport Company and Piqué signed an agreement in 2019 under which Piqué’s company would receive 40 million euros as a “success bonus” for the annual games held in Saudi Arabia.

“The facts investigated in the present proceedings have their origin in possible violations of the law with criminal consequences in the conclusion of contracts or agreements,” Rodrigo wrote.
