Tragic accident claims lives at equestrian event

Equestrian star Georgie Campbell died while doing her favorite activity – riding. The 37-year-old died after a fall at the Bicton International Horse Trials in Devon, England.

It is understandable that people want to know what happened and why it happened. However, out of respect for the family, no details of the incident have been released.

British Eventing, the UK’s governing body, released a statement following the accident.

It is with deep regret that we have to announce that Georgie Campbell (GBR) suffered a fatal accident while competing in the Bicton International Horse Trials in Devon, England on Sunday 26 May 2024. Following her fall at obstacle 5b, medical professionals were immediately on site, but unfortunately she could not be saved.

The horse, Global Quest, was examined by veterinarians on site and brought back to the stable and is uninjured.

To respect the family’s privacy during this extremely difficult and sad time, no further details will be released.

Medical personnel were on the scene and attended to the horse and rider almost immediately, but they could not be saved. A rescue helicopter, an incident commander, an ambulance with two crews and a hazardous area response team arrived at the scene.

The competition was canceled after the accident.

Campbell was a successful rider who began her career in the early 2000s. She made her equestrian debut in 2010 at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials.

Campbell married fellow horse lover Jessie Campbell in 2020. Jessie was a member of the New Zealand equestrian team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and planned to return to Paris for the 2024 Games.

Together, the couple led Team Campbell from Kent.

Our sincere condolences go out to Georgie’s family, friends, clients and colleagues during this difficult time.
