A man was shot by an unknown suspect in south Austin, police said

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police said a man died after a shooting in south Austin Sunday evening. Police said the suspect is currently unknown and left the area after the shooting.

The APD is investigating the incident as the city’s 20th homicide this year, police said.


Officers were called to the 700 block of West William Cannon Drive near South First Street around 11 p.m. Sunday about a bleeding man. According to an APD release, police found the man on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound.

The man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:13 a.m. Monday, APD said. Police did not identify the victim.

Police said the investigation revealed the man was shot shortly after arriving at an apartment complex with “another companion,” the release said.

“Investigators remain actively involved in solving the murder and are asking anyone with information to come forward,” the press release said.
