Massachusetts refugee known as “Bad Breath Rapist” caught in California after 17 years on the run

Nearly two decades after a fugitive defendant fled Massachusetts during his trial, a suspect nicknamed the “Bad Breath Rapist” was taken into custody in California, 5 Investigates has learned. Tuen Kit Lee, who went by the nickname “Dickie,” was arrested Tuesday morning, Quincy police said. 5 Investigates expects the U.S. Marshals Service to release more details on the arrest. Lee fled Massachusetts during his trial in 2007 and was convicted in absentia of rape and kidnapping. A reward of up to $10,000 has been offered in 2023 for information leading to his capture. According to Massachusetts State Police, Lee’s family owned Kagawa Restaurant in Quincy, where the victim worked. Lee broke into her home on Feb. 2, 2005, held the victim at knifepoint and tied her to the bed with zip ties before carrying out the sexual assault. She was found several hours later by her boyfriend. “Evidence suggesting LEE was the attacker included his bad breath, which the victim recognized. He was subsequently dubbed the ‘bad breath rapist’ by the media,” state police said in 2023.

According to Massachusetts State Police, Lee’s family owned Kagawa Restaurant in Quincy, where the victim worked. Lee broke into her home on February 2, 2005, threatened the victim with a knife and tied her to the bed with zip ties before sexually assaulting her. She was found several hours later by her boyfriend.

“Evidence that proved LEE was the attacker included his bad breath, which the victim recognized. The media subsequently labeled him a ‘rapist with bad breath,'” state police said in 2023.
