WE’RE AHEAD WITH BREAKING NEWS THIS MORNING. MULTIPLE POLICE DEPARTMENTS. THE SEARCH FOR A SUSPECT AFTER A STOLEN CAR LED POLICE ON A CHASE. IT STARTED IN SAINT BERNARD AND ENDED IN AVONDALE WHERE THE CAR CRASHED. WLWT NEWS 5 GIACOMO LUCA IS LIVE IN AVONDALE. GIACOMO, YOU ACTUALLY TALKED TO A WOMAN WHOSE CAR WAS STOLEN. YES, THAT’S CORRECT, STEPHEN. SHE SAYS. IN FACT, THIS WAS THE THIRD TIME THE SAME CAR THAT IS NOW BEING PICKED UP IN A TOW TRUCK WAS STOLEN. SHE SAYS. OBVIOUSLY SHE HAD A STEERING WHEEL LOCK ON IT. UNSURE AT THE MOMENT. JUST LIKE THIS PERSON WAS ABLE TO BREAK THE STEERING AND THEN TAKE THE VEHICLE FROM SAINT BERNARD HERE TO AVONDALE IN ABOUT FIVE, MAYBE SIX MINUTES WHERE IT WAS CRASHED INTO A TREE. POLICE BEGAN SEARCHING THE AREA. A BIG POLICE OPERATION WITH AT LEAST FIVE, SIX POLICE OFFICERS. ACTUALLY, ALL OVER THE AREA LOOKING FOR THIS SUSPECT, THEY ALSO HAVE DOGS ALL OVER THE AREA TONIGHT, BUT IT SEEMS THAT OFFICERS WILL END THE SEARCH EARLY TODAY TO FIND OUT EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO THE STOLEN VEHICLE. THERE IN SAINT BERNARD. AGAIN, A VERY UPSETTING EVENT FOR THE WOMAN WHO WOKE UP EARLY TODAY. SHE SAID AROUND 2 AM SHE HEARD SOMEONE, UM, OBVIOUSLY IN HER CAR, UM, MAKING LOUD NOISES. HE PROBABLY TRIED TO RELEASE THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK AND THEN SHE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AWAY, DROVE THE CAR AWAY. THEN SHE CALLED THE POLICE AND THE SITUATION ENDED HERE IN AVONDALE ON THE CORNER OF GLENWOOD AND WASHINGTON. TRAFFIC IN THE AREA, UM, JUST IN THE AREA WHERE THESE POLICE WORK, WHERE THE CAR CRASHED, UM, JUST STOPPED IMMEDIATELY. BUT IT SEEMS THAT IN THE NEXT FEW MINUTES OR SO, ONCE THIS TOW TRUCK GET THE CAR OUT OF HERE, EVERYTHING WILL BE BACK TO NORMAL. WE LIVE IN AVONDALE. GIACOMO LUCA

The focus of the investigation is the intersection of Glenwood Avenue and Washington Avenue, where a suspected stolen car crashed into a tree after a chase. Officials say it began in the St. Bernard area, at the corner of Reading and Clinton Springs. Police say the suspect fled the scene of the crash and a search using sniffer dogs was unsuccessful. According to St. Bernard police, the search is complete but the suspect has not yet been found. The road where the crash occurred will be reopened once the car is towed from the area. WLWT spoke with the driver of the involved car, who said his vehicle had been stolen several times before and this time there was even an ignition lock on the vehicle.
