Two teens, ages 14 and 16, arrested at Christiana Mall – First State Update

Delaware State Police arrested two teenagers Friday night in connection with a car theft incident at the Christiana Mall.

Officials said that on May 24, 2024, at approximately 7:58 p.m., security officers at the Christiana Mall, 132 Christiana Mall in Newark, observed a stolen Honda Accord driving recklessly in the parking lot. As security officers approached the vehicle, the suspects fled on foot. The vehicle, which had damage to the tires and steering column, was disabled.

The suspects were described as three black male teenagers, all wearing black ski masks. Two were dressed all in black, while a third wore a gray sweatshirt. Police arrived at the scene and arrested two of the three suspects in the mall parking lot. The third suspect fled in an unknown direction.

During a search, the 16-year-old suspect was found to be in possession of approximately 6.18 grams of suspected marijuana and the 14-year-old suspect was found to be in possession of approximately 3.03 grams of suspected marijuana, police said. Both suspects were taken to Squad 2 and charged with multiple felony counts.

The 16-year-old was charged with the offenses listed below, arraigned before the Justice of the Peace of Court 11, and committed to Ferris School on a $3,030 secured bond.

  • Receiving stolen goods valued at over USD 1,500 (felony)
  • Second degree conspiracy (serious crime)
  • Possession of marijuana under 18
  • Property damage over $1,000
  • Resisting arrest

The 14-year-old was charged with the offenses listed below, arraigned before the Justice of the Peace of Court 11, and committed to Ferris School on $2,550 bail.

  • Second degree conspiracy (serious crime)
  • Possession of marijuana under 18
  • Property damage over $1,000
