Woman sexually harassed in Virgin Atlantic flight messenger

A woman was bombarded with a series of horrific messages on board an airplane.

Jessica Van Meir of Atlanta, Georgia, shared photos of a series of messages she received through Virgin Atlantic’s onboard messaging system on Sunday.

A passenger named “Big D*** Swinger” sent her two winking emotes.

Another called her a “neat baby.”

“Welcome to hell,” wrote a passenger named “Dirty Mike.”

Ms Van Meir shared the news on Twitter.

She added that airline staff were helpful and dealt with the “sexually harassing messages” quickly.

“After the flight attendants spoke to the boys, I walked down the aisle and took a photo of them,” she tweeted.

“Afterwards, a young man came up to me and said he had heard about the chat between me and the boys and wanted to apologize on their behalf.”

The woman was told the group had been on a rugby outing and the man who apologised to her was “one of the leaders”.

“He said the boys had been drinking and he would talk to them, he was sorry and hoped we could leave it at that,” Ms Van Meir tweeted.

“My goal is not to go after these guys, but to make sure they understand why it was harmful.”

People called the news “gross.”

“Sorry you had to go through this,” one woman tweeted.

One man added that he was glad she had spoken out about sexual harassment because “many people wouldn’t have done so.”

Another man shared the images and tweeted that men who sexually harass women should “stop their nonsense.”

“Boys, do better. Stop arguing with women when they say, ‘Men are scum,’ when we do that to them every day,” he said.

Virgin Atlantic apologised for Ms Van Meir’s experience and deemed the behaviour “unacceptable”.

“We were extremely concerned to hear of the incident on board one of our flights and are investigating it with the utmost urgency,” the airline tweeted.

“We want all of our customers to have the best possible experience when flying with us and we do not tolerate any disruptive or inappropriate behavior.”
