4 RGNUL students killed in car accident in Patiala | Ludhiana News

PATIALA: In a tragic incident, four students of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Sidhuwal (Patiala), lost their lives in a devastating road accident on Bhadson Road near the university under Bakshiwala police station in Patiala.

The students were traveling in a Ford car when the driver lost control and the vehicle crashed into a tree. All four occupants, including a student, died on the spot. The accident occurred on the night of Friday to Saturday.

Another car, an Isuzu, carrying two other university students was also involved in the accident. The Isuzu lost control and overturned, but both occupants survived. One of the survivors, a student, was admitted to PGI Chandigarh Hospital for treatment.

Police sources said the six students were returning from a dinner party as their academic exams had ended on Friday. The university dormitory is closed after 8 p.m., prompting students to party outside of campus. They left the university around 8 p.m. with plans to return in the early hours of the following day. When returning, both cars lost control at the same time.

The deceased students were identified as Rishabh Sehgal (22 years), Ishan Sood (24 years), Kushagar Yadav and a 22-year-old student Reet Kaur, who was a daughter of a retired Indian Army major.

The SHO of Bakshiwala police station in Patiala said an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident was underway. A case under Section 174 is currently being registered but the victims’ families have refused any investigation. Authorities at the government-run Rajindra Hospital in Patiala reported that the bodies had been handed over to the families but declined to conduct a post-mortem.

This heartbreaking loss of young life has left the University community and the families of the victims in a state of shock and deep sadness.
