57-year-old man from Tripura arrested for sexually harassing a minor

Agartala, May 12 (UNI) A 10-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 57-year-old man in Kakraban area of ​​Gomati district of Tripura while she was returning home from school on Saturday. However, the police initiated an investigation, registered a case against the accused and arrested him.

The villagers stormed the Kakraban police station at night and demanded immediate arrest to ensure exemplary punishment for the accused. Kakraban police station officer in charge Rajib Bhowmik said, “Interrogation of the accused is continuing and he has been booked under Sections 341/354 of the IPC and Section 8 of the POCSO Act.”

Police said the minor girl, a class three student, was allegedly stopped by the accused, identified as Safik Miah, on a deserted stretch of road in Kishoreganj village when she was returning home. Miah is said to have caught the traumatized child and sexually abused her.

She managed to run away from the spot and after returning home, she told her parents about the terrible experience. The victim’s father immediately filed a written report with the police and the defendant was arrested that evening. The arrest did not lessen the growing anger; One night, a group of protesters arrived at the police station and demanded the harshest possible punishment for Miah.
