A taekwondo teacher who sexually abused young boys and accused them of abuse has been sentenced to prison.

Glen Edwards, of Victoria Road, Wrexham, was sentenced to six years and ten months in prison at Mold Crown Court via videolink from prison on Monday (29 July).

The 32-year-old was found guilty by a jury of several child sex offences and had admitted several more at an earlier hearing.

These included engaging in sexual acts with young boys, inciting young boys to engage in sexual acts, sexual exploitation of a child and inducing a child to view images of sexual acts.

He was also accused of sexual contact with a child and possession of indecent images of children.

The crimes were committed against eight victims between January 2018 and May 2021.

Edwards added the children on social media, asked them sexual questions and sent them sexually explicit images of himself before persistently asking for images in return.

He offered some a ride and bought them food and gifts, while he invited others to his home.

He sexually abused some of his victims while he was in the car.

After one of the attacks, one of the boys refused to meet him again, so Edwards sent him a message saying he knew where he lived.

On another occasion, Edwards bought underwear for two boys after taking them on a shopping spree.

Police became aware of Edwards’ behavior in May 2021 after a child expressed concerns about him to another adult.

He was finally indicted in January 2023.

In addition to his prison sentence, Edwards was required to register as a sex offender for life and received a sexual assault prevention order.

He was also issued with a lifetime restraining order affecting all eight victims.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Vicky Bates said: “Edwards is a manipulative sex offender who knew each of his victims was a minor.

“Every child involved was affected by his actions, some suffered significant trauma.

“I want to acknowledge and commend the courage they all showed in reporting what happened to them and in standing up to Edwards in court and bringing him to justice.

“I would encourage any victim of sexual abuse to come forward, knowing that we will do everything in our power to prosecute the perpetrators.”
