Fewer storms, increasing heat until the end of the week

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – After days of increased rain and storm chances… the weather pattern will gradually change over the next few days. Lower rain chances and fewer clouds will cause the heat and humidity to ramp up several notches between now and the weekend.

There will be more rain and rumble today, especially in the afternoon. It won’t rain everywhere, but many of us will get a brief shower. Where it doesn’t rain, however, it will be hotter…

Tuesday afternoon temperatures will be below 35 degrees in most places and could reach as high as 35 degrees in the places that get the most afternoon sunshine. Add to that the high humidity and in many places it will feel like 38-41 degrees this afternoon. Remember to take your heat protection measures!

Check out the latest live and local weather data below, streamed on WSFA Weather Now! Please note that this stream does not contain live severe weather coverage, only data on the latest weather conditions.

On Wednesday we’ll really start to notice the change in weather pattern. The number of isolated storms will be fewer and mostly concentrated in far southern Alabama. Those lucky enough to get rain will still be hot, but those who don’t get any showers will easily see temperatures in the 35s. Then add in some humidity and it will feel like 40-42 degrees Wednesday afternoon.

We’re expecting a similar pattern for Thursday, Friday and this weekend, with afternoon temperatures in the 35s and highs above 40s. Showers and thunderstorms will be rare, with only 10-30% of us getting wet on these afternoons.

In the tropics, a group of storms could develop in the central Atlantic over the next five to seven days. They will move toward the Bahamas and/or Florida by the end of the week and into the first weekend of August. Preliminary data suggests they will likely drift north before reaching the Gulf of Mexico, which would have little to no impact for us here in Alabama. But if and until something actually forms, we won’t know. Check back later for updates!
