Plaquemine Bank hosts 36th annual Art Alert Art Show and announces judges | Lifestyle

Plaquemine Bank will host the 36th annual Art Alert Art Show on Wednesday, October 30th and has issued its “Call to Artists.”

The Art Alert Art Show is open to all locals and residents of the Iberville and West Baton Rouge parishes. The art show is open to children under 10, children ages 10-13, young adults ages 14-18, and adults ages 18 and older (including professional and non-professional artists).

Each artist may submit a maximum of two works in any two-dimensional format that have not previously participated in this competition.

First, second and third place prizes of $100, $50 and $30 will be awarded in each category. Honorable Mentions will receive $15. The Bankers Choice category will also receive $15 prizes.

We are excited to announce that Stacey Casso and Chryl Corizzo will be our show judges.”

A Louisiana native, Chryl Corizzo began taking art classes at the Baton Rouge Fine Arts Academy in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at age 12. She later assisted with children’s classes at the academy as a teenager and was selling most of her original work in the Baton Rouge area by the time she graduated from high school.

Corizzo continued her artistic work during and after college, honing her skills and completing many original works, both commissioned and commercial art. She now lives in Mandeville and worked as an assistant art teacher at the Mandeville Baton Rouge Fine Arts Academy.

Several of her paintings were created during boat trips on the scenic Tchefuncte River, Lake Pontchartrain, the Rigolets, and along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, as well as during her travels in the United States and abroad.

She uses a variety of techniques including pencil, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, oil, and egg tempera. Her work has been accepted and exhibited in shows sponsored by the Louisiana Watercolor Society, the National Acrylic Painter’s Association, the New Orleans Art Association, and the St. Tammany Art Association, as well as the Mississippi Watercolor Society and the Louisiana Artist Guild’s River Road Show.

Corizzo was selected as the poster artist for the 2005 Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival. She is a signature and board member of the Louisiana Watercolor Society and currently teaches beginning and advanced classes at Abbey Art Works in Covington.

Stacey Casso is a successful artist from Louisiana. Her passion for art began at age 17, and for over four decades she has honed her skills and brought her creative visions to life.

In the late 70’s to early 80’s, Stacey had the privilege of taking classes with renowned artist Larry Casso at the Baton Rouge Fine Arts Academy. Under his guidance, she learned various artistic techniques ranging from pencil, charcoal and pastel to watercolor painting.

Through this comprehensive training, she was able to develop versatile skills and a deep understanding of different media.

In 1981, a new chapter in her artistic career began when she founded an art gallery and framing business with her mother, Lucille Uffman. This business not only provided Stacey with a platform to exhibit her own artwork, but also allowed her to support and promote other talented artists in her community.

For the past 42 years, she has also run a successful framing business and continued to pursue her passion, painting.

Stacey Casso was inspired by the enchanting rural landscapes, colorful birds and delicate flowers of Louisiana.

Her artwork captures the essence of her surroundings, whether it be the essence of New Orleans, the excitement of our sports teams, or a stroll down Casso Street. Her art has received worldwide recognition and admiration and her pieces are sold to collectors around the world.

In addition to her canvas paintings, she is currently exploring new artistic areas by creating hand-painted boots, handbags and wallets, and is also returning to painting on cypress wood, slate and other materials.

This expansion into different media underlines her versatility and willingness to constantly push the boundaries of her creativity.

Artworks can be dropped off at Plaquemine Bank from October 14-25, 2024.

Plaquemine Bank will host a reception in the lobby to honor all participating artists. This reception is open to the public and the celebration begins at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 4:00 p.m.
