Federal authorities arrest convicted bank robber in Broward

POMPANO BEACH, Florida. – Five years after his arrest by the FBI, a convicted bank robber in Broward County was back behind bars.

Lucas Simoes Del Negro was 23 when FBI Special Agent Kristin Pollard identified him as the man wearing a black T-shirt, dark jeans and black and white sneakers to rob the Wells Fargo Bank branch in Hallandale Beach.

According to Pollard, on September 18, 2019, Del Negro walked up to a bank teller at 3131 West Hallandale Beach Boulevard and handed her a note: “We know your name, 10,000, don’t leave or there will be an alarm or we’ll start shooting, money in the envelope.”

According to the indictment, the bank employee put $1,564 in an envelope and handed it to Del Negro, who did not cover his face and left the bill with his fingerprints on it. Prosecutors filed charges against him, and he appeared before a federal judge at the U.S. Federal Building and Courthouse in Fort Lauderdale.

Del Negro was 24 when U.S. District Judge Jose E. Martinez sentenced him on January 28, 2020. at the U.S. Court Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. in Miami to 57 months in prison and three years probation.

Records show that Martinez ordered Del Negro to pay restitution and undergo drug treatment. He was released from federal prison and began probation on Nov. 24.

Records show Del Negro tested positive for MDA on Feb. 14 and was arrested in Broward County on Feb. 19 for allegedly stealing a Gatorade from a 7-Eleven store. A probation officer recommended that he be placed in a treatment program.

Broward County records show U.S. Marshals Service agents arrested him in June and again on Thursday. Hearings before Martinez to determine whether Del Negro violated the terms of his probation began Friday.

Broward Sheriff’s Office inmate records show Del Negro was at the Joseph V. Conte Facility in Pompano Beach on Saturday afternoon and was being held by the U.S. Marshals Service.
