French railway network partially restored after sabotage attack

Following the sabotage attack on Friday ahead of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, operations on the French railway network have been partially restored.

Crews worked through the night in bad weather to restore service on all lines affected by the attack. The railway company aims to fully restore service by Monday.

No arrests were made and no suspects were identified in connection with the arson attack on the railway system.

According to the French state railway company SNCF, delays occurred on most railway lines after the fires and at least 800,000 people were affected, according to a statement from the French railway company.

The first fires were reported at 4 a.m. local time on Friday, the SNCF said. Signal boxes on the tracks were ablaze and cables on the tracks were severed, causing major disruption in northern and eastern France, the SNCF said.

The SNCF said it had increased safety on all routes with 1,000 employees and 50 drones.
