Homicide investigation underway after body found in Delaware River in Philadelphia – NBC10 Philadelphia

A homicide investigation is underway after the Philadelphia Police Marine Unit pulled the body of a man from the Delaware River who was last seen boating with friends.

Police were called to the river near Linden Avenue in the Holmesburg neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2024, for a report of a body in the water, Philadelphia Police Chief Scott Small said.

The body recovered from the water by police matched the description of a man in his 40s who had been reported missing about 24 hours earlier, police said.

The boater, whose name was not released, was last seen on a boat with friends late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, Small said.

After examining the man’s body, investigators suspected foul play, Small said. Homicide detectives have been called in to investigate.

The body has been sent to the medical examiner’s office to determine the manner and cause of death, Small said. That information could be released Friday.
