Woman dead after shooting involving deputy sheriff in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Illinois (WCIA) – A woman is dead after a shooting involving a deputy in Springfield early Saturday morning.

According to the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office, sheriffs were dispatched to a residence in the 2800 block of Hoover Avenue around 12:50 a.m. for a report of a “burglar.”


Two officers began searching the area. At approximately 1:21 a.m., officers reported shots fired and a woman had been hit. Officers began administering first aid until EMS arrived and transported the woman to St. John’s Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

No officers were injured in the incident. The Illinois State Police are conducting an independent investigation into the incident at the request of the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office.

WCIA reached out to Illinois State Police, who said the investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
