Mark Carnevale, PGA Tour commentator and former player, dies at the age of 64

PGA Tour commentator and former Tour winner Mark Carnevale died on Monday, a week after reporting from his final tournament.

He was 64 years old.

The untimely death shocked the golf community and PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan called Carnevale a “beloved member of the TOUR family.”

“He was a member of that elite club, a winner on the PGA Tour, and went on to hold numerous roles in the industry, most recently as a prominent voice in PGA Tour Radio coverage,” Monahan said in a statement. “Mark knew the game and did an excellent job of providing insight from his unique perspective – all with an engaging wit and sense of humor.”

The cause of death was not disclosed and the PGA Tour only stated that he died suddenly.

Carnevale competed in 212 PGA Tour events during his golf career and was named Rookie of the Year in 1992 at age 32 after winning the Chattanooga Classic.

He later turned his attention to the Korn Ferry Tour and eventually became tournament director of the Korn Ferry Tour’s Virginia Beach Open in 2003.

In 2005, he moved into broadcasting and began covering PGA Tour events for SiriusXM Radio. His most recent assignment was the Scottish Open two weeks ago.

“Mark Carnevale was an integral part of the live coverage on our streaming platforms and PGA TOUR Radio coverage. He was a consummate professional who was respected by the PGA TOUR players he covered, and his insightful analysis and humor will be greatly missed,” Greg Hopfe, senior vice president and executive producer of PGA TOUR Entertainment, said in a statement.
