Sparks man arrested for allegedly firing shots while drunk

A man was arrested in Sparks on Sunday after firing shots into the air in his backyard, Sparks police said.

On July 21, at approximately 9:45 a.m., Sparks Police responded to a report of multiple shots fired in the 1400 block of 12th Street.

According to police, officers contacted the house where the shots were allegedly fired. After knocking on the door, a man opened the door with a gun in his hand. The perpetrator quickly closed the door and went into the house. Officers used an intercom to get everyone to leave the suspect house. An adult woman and two minor children left the house. The perpetrator refused to leave the house. Officers evacuated the surrounding houses.

After some time, the perpetrator left the house and turned himself in to police without incident. During the investigation, police identified the man as 55-year-old Manuel Victorio-Acuna of Sparks. The investigation revealed that Victorio-Acuna was under the influence of alcohol and fired the gun into the air in his backyard. No one was injured in this incident and Victorio-Acuna was taken to the Washoe County Detention Center and arrested on the following charges:

  • Child endangerment
  • Possession of a firearm while intoxicated
  • Unauthorized firing of a firearm
