I thought this outfit would be perfect for Disney World. Spoiler alert: It was NOT

Deciding what to wear to Disney World is HARD, okay?

Hello, MK!

Maybe you have your favorite outfits, but what about all the other cute options in your closet? Are they good for the parks? Should you break away from your tried-and-true outfits to see how they work? I made this decision on my last trip and learned the hard way that it was WRONG.

I’m not saying you need to stick with your favorites and never try anything new, but MAYBE you should be a little smarter than me and make sure Whenever you try something new, bring a backup outfit that you know will work well, just in case.

Animal Kingdom

Let me describe the scene (because who else would I be?): I would spend a fairly short 36 hours at Disney World. The first day, I woke up incredibly early to head down before spending a half day in the parks, spending a full second day in the parks, and then heading back the next morning.

Ready for the parks!

My first day, I wore an outfit that I knew would be comfortable to drive 7 hours in, but I also knew it would be appropriate for the parks (moisture-wicking shirt and skirt with integrated shorts for the win!). Everything was fine that day, but on my second day, I chose a one-piece that I bought online (and had worn before, so I knew it would fit well) and a shirt underneath. The shorts are pretty long so I thought I would be comfortable in the parks – WRONG.

I thought this outfit was perfect!

While I had no issues with the outfit at home, I had forgotten that things change DRASTICALLY when you’re running 10 miles a day at Disney World versus 1-2 miles a day (if that) at home. I quickly noticed that although the shorts were long, the way they were cut meant they sometimes tended to ride up when I walked. It didn’t look bad to the people around me, it was more something I could feel. I tried to adjust the straps of the romper, but it was useless – The way the romper is cut makes it much better suited for everyday movement, not for movement in Disney World.

It was around this time that I regretted my decision

I was so disappointed because I thought I had thought through the logistics of the outfit and its practicality for the parks, but it was a lesson for me to remember that sometimes Even if it looks like everything is going well, not every outfit is appropriate for Disney World.

Rush of visitors at Hollywood Studios

And since I had no spare outfit, I was doomed to suffer (I’m exaggerating, it wasn’t THAT bad) for the entire day which consisted of 3/4 parks and jumping back and forth between Magic Kingdom and EPCOT three times.

Friends!!

So the moral of the story is: It’s okay to try out a few new outfits at Disney World, but be sure to bring a backup outfit in case something goes wrong. Even if you’re 95% sure you won’t have any problems! Weather can also be a big factor! If something is dry but has never gotten wet, you may find out the hard way how uncomfortable it gets when it rains or you get off a water ride.
