Man (51) rapes girl (12)

A 51-YEAR-OLD man from Nkayi in Matabeleland Northern Province has appeared in court charged with raping a 12-year-old student.

The suspect remained in custody until May 21, according to a statement from the state prosecutor’s office.

According to the state, the girl was herding livestock in January this year when she met the suspect, who was carrying an ax and an okapi knife.

The man forced her to the ground, took off her clothes and raped her.

After the crime, he offered her $1 to buy her silence. However, the matter came to light when the girl reported the sexual assault to her grandmother.

A police report was filed and the investigation led to the man’s arrest.
