(KRON) – Four men were recently arrested by the San Mateo County Narcotics Task Force for attempting to smuggle drugs into the Maguire Correctional Facility, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said.

On April 23, sheriff’s deputies learned that inmate Froylan Armenta, 23, of Pinole, had attempted to smuggle the drugs during his commutation process.

While searching Armenta, officers discovered he was in possession of methamphetamine. Sheriff’s personnel prevented the drugs from entering the jail, the sheriff’s office said.

Armenta was then rebooked due to the following costs:

  • Possession of methamphetamine for sale
  • Transportation for the sale of methamphetamine
  • Conspiracy to commit a crime

An additional follow-up investigation led to three additional suspects who were not in custody but were involved in the operation.

Those arrested were Guillermo J. Flores, 31, of Menlo Park; Christopher D. Merlo, 32, of San Mateo; and Ivette Duran, 34, of South San Francisco.

The three people faced the same charges as Armenta, the sheriff’s office said.
